DBS-Checked Children’s Entertainers: Everything You Need To Know
When hiring a kids entertainer for your upcoming party, you want to make sure that they’re the best – and safest – option available. This can involve looking for DBS-checked kids entertainers, which is often a sign that they’ll be reliable and can be trusted to work with children.
But if you’re new to party-planning, you might not have come across this check before. So what is actually checked with a DBS, and do kids entertainers need this accreditation in order to work around children? As the go-to kids entertainment provider in the UK, we’re here to answer your questions.
What is checked for on a DBS check?
There are multiple types of DBS check in the UK, but all of them work similarly in terms of what is being looked for as part of the process.
In general, a DBS check will identify any unspent convictions or cautions that an individual has received in recent years. For parents, knowing that an entertainer has undergone a DBS check can provide additional reassurance when choosing someone for their child’s party.
What are the DBS requirements for kids activity providers?
Legally, a DBS check isn’t required for an entertainer who works with children. This is because the DBS check applies to “regulated activities”, which includes caring for, teaching, or supervising children.
However, we know how important peace of mind can be when planning an amazing party for kids. That’s why we require all of our entertainers to undergo a DBS check before we hire them – providing you with the reassurance you need ahead of your child’s birthday party.
How long does a DBS check last?
Because a DBS check assesses an individual’s possible convictions or warnings up until the date of the check, there’s technically no expiry date. Think of it like a snapshot of that moment in time, rather than a certificate that covers somebody for months or years to come.
Because of this, we ask that all of our entertainers undergo regular checks to maintain a sense of safety and security for parents.

Other checks to consider for kids parties
A DBS check is the main safety precaution that you should keep in mind when choosing your kids party entertainment, but it isn’t the only check that entertainers undergo in the name of safety.
All of our DJ entertainment (including lights and speaker systems) are PAT tested, reducing the risk of an electrical shock or fire. We also hold Public Liability Insurance (which is renewed yearly), and carry out regular risk assessments to identify and protect against anything that might cause harm during a party.
This comes together to provide complete peace of mind for parents, so that you can focus on what matters most: a super fun, exciting kids party!
