Magical Princess Party Ideas
Every parent wants to make sure that their child’s birthday party is a magical time for everyone. But getting the details right takes time and effort; particularly if you’re looking to throw an exciting themed party that takes your guests to another world.
Take a Princess Party, for example: it’s your job to make your child truly believe that they’re a princess. Yes, entertainers like our trained experts will bring fun and games that contribute to that magical world, but you’ll also need to consider things like decorations, party food, and even invites – all of which help to set the right mood.
Not sure how to get started? As the party planning professionals, we’ve helped thousands of parents to throw incredible themed parties that go down a treat. Let’s run through some pointers that will turn your party into a magical princess wonderland.
Setting the scene with invites
Kids party invites can actually do a lot more than just let your guests know when and where the party is taking place. When handled correctly, they can be the start of the fun, and get the kids excited for the theme you’ve chosen.
For a Princess Party, there are a few things you could consider to make even the invites an important part of your planning:
- Fun, themed language: Skip the usual “You are invited to a party…” introductions. Instead, make every part of your party feel creative by declaring “By royal decree, you have been cordially invited to celebrate the birthday of Lady…”. This immediately makes everything more fun, and gets imaginations running before the big day
- Creative presentation: Everybody loves making a DIY invite, and a Princess Party is the perfect opportunity to crack out your arts and crafts. Use parchment paper, roll the invites up in a ribbon, and include a wax seal to really add a wow-factor that your guests will love
- Fun dress codes: Restricting what your guests can wear might make it hard for parents, but encouraging fun, themed outfits on your invites is a great way to guarantee more fun on the day of the party. This could be as simple as a small tiara, or you could encourage full princess dresses to really pull out all the stops

Decorations fit for a princess
Next, you’ll want to consider your Princess Party decorations. Putting in some thought at this stage can turn your fairly standard party venue into a mythical adventure land, or a glamorous castle fit for royalty.
Before guests even enter, you could set up a velvet rope and red carpet outside to welcome them into the festivities. This will be massively exciting for the kids, who will want to come in and start the party from the moment they arrive.
Then, think about your table decorations for when it’s time for the kids to sit down and eat. You could lay out some simple plastic ‘magic mirrors’, with faces drawn or stuck on that the kids can play with during some downtime. Or even cut your colourful napkins into the shape of a crown, instantly turning a fairly boring element into a magical item they’ll want to use.
It might also be a good idea to bring a few spare items of clothing/dress-up, for kids that might not have prepared beforehand. Ask around to see what you could borrow from friends and family, and create a magical chest that’s filled with hats and cloaks your guests can pick up when they first arrive.
Food to feed royalty
With all of your mini princesses and princes, you’ll need to put on a spread of food that gives the feeling of a glamorous medieval banquet.
Okay, maybe not that extreme. But it’s worth thinking about ideas that go beyond the usual party food affair, and add even more fun and magic to the theme of your day:
- Magical wand skewers: Simply cube fruit like strawberries, melons, and pineapple. You can then slide these onto a wooden skewer, and stick a square of cheese cut into the shape of a star on the end – turning this tasty treat into a wand fit for a princess!
- Crown sandwiches: Sandwiches are a reliable staple of any birthday party spread, but with a simple cookie cutter, you can transform your regular sandwich into a bite-sized crown
- Colourful jewels: Popcorn is a great, low-calorie snack that kids love. And with a little food dye, simple popcorn suddenly becomes a handful of attractive gems that kids will love! Make this even more magical by pre-portioning some popcorn into miniature treasure chests
